With global demand for quality, nutritious food growing exponentially, and transportation costs forecast to rise over the next 10 to 20 years, Manitoba’s beef industry has an opportunity today to adapt its infrastructure to take advantage of these long-term trends. In 2009, the Manitoba Cattle Enhancement Council prepared the following discussion paper to examine the opportunities and challenges facing the industry:
The following reports were prepared by Toma & Bouma Management Consultants, one of Canada’s leading management consultant practices with expertise in agriculture and agri-food. The first, prepared in 2002 for the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council, examines in detail a number of different value chains in the beef industry around the world and analyzes the opportunities available for the Manitoba industry. The second paper, prepared in 2010 for the Beef Industry Alliance, takes an in depth look at the elements required for a successful new beef processing plant focused on differentiated products.
